Elizabeth Pool Obituary

Rockport: On Thursday, February 22, 2024, Elizabeth (Betty )B. (Fitzpatrick) Pool, of Rockport, Ma. passed away after succumbing to the effects of Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.  Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alan S Pool with whom she shared over 52 years of marriage.

Elizabeth was born on June 28, 1943, in Roslindale, MA to the late Rose (Frappier) and John Fitzpatrick.   At the age of 2, her family relocated to Prides Crossing, Beverly, where she lived until her marriage to her high school sweetheart in 1964.

Betty attended St Mary’s High School in Beverly, graduating in 1960, and later attended Merrimack College in North Andover graduating with an associate degree in 1962.  Once married, Betty settled in Rockport, her new adopted home, and started a family.

Her greatest joy was motherhood.  Baking homemade bread, canning jelly, growing a vegetable garden, all while working full-time.  She was active in Girl Scouts for over 30 years, she was a religious education teacher and coordinator for over 20 years, and a minister of Holy Communion.  She was a lifelong learner, a voracious reader, and a natural teacher.  Her energy was formidable.

Once her kids were old enough, she began her career, first at the local bank, The Rockport National Bank, eventually moving to the Cape Ann Tool Company.  In 1982 she set her sights on the big city and took a job with a start-up software company in Cambridge where she worked for 19 years.  She loved the excitement of bringing a new product to the market and developed her sales skills in this new industry.  She always said what she loved most about her years in Cambridge was the chance to meet people from all over through her job in sales.  She loved people and made strangers feel like family.  When she decided to work closer to home she applied her sales skills to the real estate field becoming an agent in 2002.   In real estate, her love of people and her problem-solving skills combined to create a powerful force.

After retirement her time was spent with friends and family, watching her grandchildren play sports, finding a passion for local politics in the Rockport Republican Town Committee, forming a bible study group, and attending church services.

Betty is survived by her children, Lisa M Magerer and her husband, David of Belmont, N.H., Christina A Marshall and her husband, Ricci of Lee, N.H., Mark A Pool and his wife, Vera Chan-Pool, of Seattle, Wa.; two grandchildren, Cameron Magerer and Zhosi Pool, one step-grandchild, Renee (Marshall) Rogers, and one step-great grandson, Salvatore Russo.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her three older sisters, Margery Rush, Joan Horgan, and Ann Boyle, and her step-grandson, Ricci Marshall, Jr.

Betty’s funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 4, 2024, in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 1 Pineswamp Rd., Ipswich, MA at 10:00 a.m.  The interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Eastern Ave., Gloucester.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Morris Funeral Home, 45 N.
