Patrick Eugene Herndon, 63, of Newbury, passed away on March 8, 2024 at 1:11 a.m.
after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 27, 1960, in Wenatchee, Washington, Patrick
spent a large portion of his childhood in Milton-Freewater, Oregon, where he spent time with his
beloved older brother, Roy Herndon, and developed a deep love for the outdoors and athletics.
Patrick’s love for sports began in his early childhood. By the eighth grade, he stood at
6’4” which allowed him to stand out on the basketball court. Patrick’s passion for basketball
flourished when he played at the University of Oregon. After graduating from McLoughlin High
School in 1978, Patrick studied journalism at Western Washington University. He quickly
became interested in the world of Finance and began pursuing a career in financial strategy
shortly thereafter. Patrick’s drive for his career allowed him opportunities at a number of
esteemed financial firms.
Basketball was a common thread throughout his life and showed in his community
involvement. He led the Immaculate Conception School Saturday morning basketball program
from 2006-2015. Through this work, he shared the joy of the game with the next generation,
including his children. For his efforts at transforming the clinic into a thriving example of the
tradition of Catholic school basketball, Patrick received the Pelican Award for service. Patrick
was an especially active man, with a wide range of outdoor hobbies. During the off hours he
spent his time fishing, cycling, hiking, hunting, skiing, amongst other favorite activities. He
found great joy in refereeing lacrosse and basketball, officiating soccer games, and especially in
his support of and participating with the Special Olympics Adult Basketball program.
Patrick is now reunited with his beloved daughter, Scout Nicole Herndon; his parents,
Roy and Sally Herndon; and his older brother Roy Herndon, in eternal peace. Patrick is survived
by his loving wife, Lisa Francis; and his children, Trevor Post (Natalie), Kellan Herndon
(Christie), Christopher Herndon, Kate Herndon, Alex Herndon, Piper Herndon; and his
stepdaughter, Hunter Greene. He was a cherished grandfather to Leon Post; son of Trevor and
Natalie Post. He also leaves behind his half-sister, Sharon Harwood and her family. Donations in
