Arthur A. Kapsalis, 91, husband of the late Constance B. (Georgakopoulos) Kapsalis, died Friday night October 4, 2019 in his home surrounded by his family after a long illness. Born in Chios, Greece on June 4, 1928 he was the son of the late Anthony amd Mariathi (Karagulai) Kapsalis.
Born and raised in Greece he served in the Greek Army/Merchant Marines from the age of 13 until 18 years of age. Later he came to the US when he was 18 years old.
Mr. Kapsalis was employed at Ipswich Shellfish for 35 years. He enjoyed fishing on his house boat, gardening and hunting. For all his life he was known for eating eggs, bacon and an everything bagel every morning. He was also known through out the town of Ipswich for giving everyone his Ouzo candy. Mr. Kapsalis was a 53 year member of the John T. Heard Masonic Lodge in Ipswich and was a member of the Scottish Rite in Newburyport. He was a long time and very active member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich. He was also a member of the A.H.E.P.A. in Ipswich. His favorite tv show to watch was ‘ The Three Stooges’ and he enjoyed spending time with his cat ‘ Meow Meow’. He was predeceased by his wife Connie on January 18, 2015.
Mr. Kapsalis is survived by his three daughters and their husbands : Marlene and William Dickson of Stow, Iris Cyr of Lynn, Electra and Donald Paradis of Townsend. He is also surived by his 3 granddaughters : Michelle Lique and her husband Dana of Palm Coast, FL, Chrisoula Iatrou of Lynn, Rachael Paradis and her husband Brian Way of Los Angeles, CA, 1 great-granddaughter Zaylee Lique, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kapsalis was also predeceased by his 2 brothers John and Nicko and by his 2 sisters Virginia and Irene and his great-granddaughter Zoey Lique.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday October 9th. at 10 :00 A.M. at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich. Burial will follow in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Tuesday October 8th. from 5 :00 to 8 :00 P.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich, relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Evening Masonic services will be conducted at 7 :00 P.M. in the funeral home.
