Dorothy R. (Bowden) Barney

Dorothy R. (Bowden) Barney, 95, wife of the late William E. Barney, died early Friday morning  March 15, 2019  in the Country Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Newburyport after a long illness.  Born in Lowell on  September 27, 1923  she was the daughter of the late  Charles E. and Marion F. (Shanley) Bowden. 

     After High School she attended the Lowell Commercial Institution for their Secretarial program.   During World War II she worked for the Tewksbury Ration Board.  She and her husband William were married on  December 8, 1945  in Rochester, NH.  Dorothy and William were long time residents of Ipswich.  She was predeceased by her husband on  November 4, 1982.

      Dorothy is survived by her 4 children:  William E. Barney, Jr. and his wife Victoria of Ipswich, Marion F. Prescott and her husband Peter also of Ipswich, Beverly A. Leighton and her husband David of Wakefield and Thomas E. Barney of Chicago.  She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, her 13 great-grandchildren , her brother Joseph Bowden of Tewksbury and by many nieces and nephews.

     A funeral service will be held Tuesday  March 19th.  at  11:00 A.M.  in the Morris Funeral Home  45 North Main Street, Ipswich.  Burial will follow in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery  29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich.  An hour of visitation will be Tuesday  March 19th.  from  10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service, relatives and friends are respectfully invited.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Dorothy’s name to:  Constellation Hospice Services  180 Low Street  Newburyport, MA  01950  or go to:  info@constellationhs.com .  To send a letter of condolence to the Barney family please go to:  MorrisFH.com .
