Groveland, MA – Irene Muriel Frances Arndt, MD, of Nichols Village, Groveland, MA, died Saturday April 7, 2018 in her home. She was the daughter of Muriel (nee Beven) and Ebenezer Ondatje and was born in Colombo, Ceylon on the thirtieth of June 1919. She was married to The Reverend F. George Arndt in St. Stephens Church, Rochester Row, Westminster, England on the fourteenth of December 1950.
At the age of three, Dr. Arndt turned to her mother and told her that someday she would become a doctor. And that she did! She was one of only three women in her class at medical school. She went on to become a Doctor of Obstetrics and Gynecology; with a single practice that was larger than any of her male colleagues in Ossining, New York. Her devotion and passion for the practice of medicine was grounded in her faith and in God’s guidance. She was a much beloved doctor by those for whom she cared, many of whom have corresponded faithfully throughout the many years since her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband in 2005.
Dr. Arndt lived a life devoted to others. She was married for fifty-five years and in that time raised four daughters—Theonie, Michele (Mrs. Robert Garneau), Margot (Mrs. Mark Hayden) and Cheri. She was surrounded by her four sisters for all her life—Doreen, Verna, Eleanor and Cynthia. She is survived by her four grandchildren—Kristyn (Mrs. James Fadden), Mallory Garneau, Connor Hayden and Sean Hayden: by her two great-grandchildren, Brynn and Seamus, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. She was kind to all she met; she was full of grace.
