Ipswich – Evangelos “Sharkey” Markos, 90, husband of the late Marguerite (Cheverie) Markos, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday December 19, 2018. Born in Ipswich on September 20, 1928 he was the son of the late John and Anastasia (Sarantakis) Markos.
He was the co-owner of P.J. Markos Seafood in Ipswich for many years. He was a lifelong and active member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Ipswich where he served as a member of the Board. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the A.H.E.P.A., the masons and the Loganniko Society.
He enjoyed his daily trips to the Agawam Diner, his second home in Florida, his dog “Oliver”, and the many friends that he cherished throughout his life in Ipswich.
Mr. Markos is survived by his three daughters and their spouses: Elaine Markos and her husband Alexander Forsyth, Catherine and Charles Gianakakis, Evangelyn and William Surette. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Marguerite Gregory, Andrew and Emily Gregory, Madelein Gregory, Ryan Forsyth, Erica and Nicholas Duda, Alisha and Patrick Harris, Andrew Gianakakis, Marykate Surette and Kevin Surette, and by his great-grandchildren: Sophia and Owen Duda and Myles Harris. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Constance Markos and Voula Markos, also by his dear wife’s family: Catherine DelleMonache, Carol Cheverie, Urila and Phil Cheverie, James and Mary Cheverie, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mr. Markos was predeceased by his brothers: Peter, James and Euripedes Markos, sister Helen Markos, Etta Sotis and her husband Arthur, his brothers-in-law: William Cheverie and Ralph DelleMonache.
A funeral service will be held Saturday December 22nd. at 10:00 A.M. at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich, relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will follow the service in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Friday December 21st. from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich.
