Irene Belanger

Amesbury/Ipswich – Irene Belanger, died peacefully on Monday February 5, 2018, 2 days short of her 96th. birthday, after a brief period of failing health. Born in Ipswich, she was the daughter of the late Ulric and Bridget Belanger. Ms. Belanger was raised and educated in Ipswich. She was a communicant of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Ipswich and of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church of Ipswich. She was employed at Sylvania in Ipswich for many years and was a dedicated member of Sylvania’s Quarter Century Club. She was especially proud of her efforts assisting the Navy during WWII, she worked on the Top Secret Proximity Fuse Project. After retirement, she was employed at Opportunity Works in Newburyport. Ms. Belanger was a member of the V.F.W. Post# 1093 Auxiliary of Ipswich. She loved her family, friends, crossword puzzles, bingo and the occasional trip to Foxwoods. She enjoyed many years of travel, both in the US and abroad. She and her lifelong friend and companion, Pauline Super, who predeceased her by almost 3 years, were also fortunate to winter in Florida. She spent her final years at the Elizabeth Calsey House in Amesbury, where she was lovingly cared for and considered the staff and fellow residents dear friends. Ms. Belanger is survived by her sister, Margaret Dodge and her brother in law, George Singer. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Ms. Belanger was predeceased by her brother, Gaston, and sisters : Adrienne, Clara and Theresa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday February 10th. at 10 :00 A.M. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Burial will take place at a later date in the New Highland Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visitation will be Saturday from 8 :30 to 9 :30 A.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
