John Prescott Obituary

John “Paul” Prescott, age 77, of Ipswich, Massachusetts passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Paul was born at Salem Hospital on June 24, 1941, the son of Stephen and Mary Gwozdz Prescott.

Paul spent 4 years in the United States Air Force and was employed by the Telephone Company for 35 years, retiring in 2000 from Lucent Technologies.  Paul married the love of his life, Eileen Locke Prescott, 53 years ago at St. Joseph’s Church, Ipswich, on September 18, 1965 and  together they remained lifelong residents of Ipswich.  Paul and Eileen enjoyed traveling – some of their favorite trips included Ireland, England, Greece, Turkey, Panama Canal, Bermuda, Mexico, Costa Rica, and throughout the United States and Canada.  Locally, they loved to host their many friends and family at their Ipswich home.  Paul enjoyed boating ‘down river’ and the beautiful landscape of Ipswich.  He especially loved driving his ’87 GMC Truck with his dog, Rylee, by his side.  He was an avid gardener and golfer.  He also was one of the originators of the Over 30 Softball League.  He was a proud fan of the Boston sports teams.  For over 50 years, Paul was a member of the PLAV and the Knights of Columbus.

Paul is survived by his wife, Eileen, his brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Marion Prescott, his sisters-in-law, Mary Doody, Alice Stasiuk, Jean Locke, Elizabeth Prentiss and his brother-in-law and loyal friend, James Prentiss and his many nieces, nephews and Godchildren.  He is also survived by his “adopted family”, Craig and Patty Dumont and his “adopted grandchildren”, Joshua and Sydney Dumont.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Our Lady of Hope Church, 1 Pineswamp Road, Ipswich at 10:30am.  Burial to follow at Cowles Memorial Cemetery    29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich.  Friends and relatives are welcome.  At Paul’s request, there will be no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Care Dimensions’ Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA  01923.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Morris Funeral Home of Ipswich.  To send a condolence to Paul’s family please go to:  MorrisFH.com .
