Ipswich – Lorraine Kenney Seaton, 92, died Monday May 14, 2018 in her home in Ipswich after a long illness. Born in Cranston, RI on June 2, 1925 she was the daughter of the late William and Helena (O’Rourke) Kenney.
Lorraine graduated from Classical High School in Providence, RI in June of 1943. Later she graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1947. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and was a member of the URI Golden Grads. Lorraine was also a member and Secretary of the Phi Delta Drama Club.
After graduation Lorraine settled in Westport, CT for the next 42 years and raised her two daughters. She earned a Masters in Education from Western Connecticut College in May 1974. She was an elementary school teacher in the Westport school system for over 25 years and was Vice President of the Westport Education Association for several years in Westport. In 1992 she received a Retired Life Membership in the Connecticut Education Association. After the birth of her beloved granddaughter Jessica in 1990, she moved to Ipswich in 1996. She was Treasurer of the Democratic Town Committee for many years where all members were fond of her.
Lorraine is survived by her two daughters: Gail Seaton-Humbert of CO and Diane Mayo and her husband Tom of Ipswich, her granddaughter Jessica Mayo of Ipswich, her step-grandsons Tom and Jon Mayo, her brother Bob Kenney and his wife Mary Ann of Niantic, CT, her sister-in-law Nancy Kenney of Warwick, RI, her nieces, nephews and their families: Mike and Nicole Kenney of RI, Chris Kenney of MA, Kate and Tyler Batchelder of VT, Brenda and Mike Gurski of CT, Rob and Angie Kenney of NY, Steve and Alison Kenney of MA, and countless other family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Lorraine was also predeceased by her younger brother Warwick Kenney, all of RI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday May 19th. at 9:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich, all are respectfully invited. Burial will follow in the New Highland Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. A hour of visitation will be Saturday May 19th. from 7:30 to 8:30 A.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich.
