– Margaret E. (Keyes) Bowen, 80, wife of Howard R. Bowen, died Wednesday evening February 27, 2019 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by her family after a long illness. Born in Medford on February 11, 1939 she was the daughter of the late Kenneth F. and Helen L. (Doherty) Keyes.
Mrs. Bowen was a graduate of Winchester High School and later was a graduate of the State College in Lowell, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching. She started her teaching career in Hamilton for a few years. Later she would return to teaching in Ipswich and retired after 27 years. Her passion was teaching and being with children. Mrs. Bowen was one of the founding members of the G.A.L.S. Softball League. She coached the Mariners in the G.A.L.S. League for many years. Mrs. Bowen always encouraged her children to continue their education. She enjoyed animals, especially dogs and manatees. She and her husband were married on April 22, 1962. They were 1 month shy of celebrating their 57 anniversary.
Mrs. Bowen is survived by her husband, Howie Bowen of Ipswich, their 3 children and their spouses: Robert and Kristine Bowen of Ipswich, Elizabeth and Eric Wade also of Ipswich and Barbara Bowen of Beverly. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren: Craig Bowen, Jack Bowen, Jordyn Scalessee, Cristian Reyes, Joshua Wade and Megan Wade, and her great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Isaiah and Penelope. Mrs. Bowen is also survived by her 2 brothers, 1 sister and their spouses: Kenneth and Sandra Keyes of Rowley, Robert and Julie Keyes of San Diego, CA, Janice and James MacDonald of NH, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday March 4th. at 9:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Burial will follow in the New Highland Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Sunday March 3rd. from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich.
