Ipswich – Philip J. Bernard, Jr., 86, died Sunday morning December 1, 2019 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a short illness. Born in Ipswich on May 10, 1933 he was the son of the late Philip J. Sr., and Evelyn P (Dort) Bernard.
Mr. Bernard was raised and educated in Ipswich. He entered the Army and served in Korea from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. He was employed at the former Creese & Cook Tannery in Danvers for over 20 years. Later Mr. Bernard was employed at the Hamilton/Wenham Regional High School for 13 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post# 1093 here in Ipswich.
Mr. Bernard is survived by his 2 brothers: Ronald G. Bernard of Florida and Elmer G. Bernard of Ipswich, his 4 sisters: Eleanor M. Bernard of Beverly, Linda R. Corliss of Florida, Barbara Hemenway also of Florida and Mary A. Good of Ipswich, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother William D. Bernard formerly of Florida.
A private graveside will be held later with military honors. Burial will be in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. There will be no visiting hours.
