Robert Como, local barber died at home surrounded by his Family on Monday January 28, 2019. Born on May 5, 1937 in Ipswich at Cable Hospital to parents Gordon and Adelle Como. After graduating from Ipswich High, Bob joined the Army followed by Barber School. He opened his Barber shop here in Ipswich but to better support his growing family of 6 boys, he decided to close up the shop and take a new job while still practicing his trade for friends and family throughout the years.
Bob was always there to lend a hand to family or friend whether they needed a roof over their heard or helping the fire department raise funds to buy the life-saving equipment known as the “Jaws of Life”. He was a member of many local groups like: The Lions Club, American Legion, a board member of the Ipswich Housing Authority, Knights of Columbus and served the town as a Call Fireman for 25 years.
He leaves his wife Sheila of 56 years, sons: Stephen (wife Linda), Raymond, Matthew, Paul (wife Valerie), Mark, and Jonathan (Fiance Jackie). His brothers: Gordon, Ronald (wife Linda), Allen, William and sisters: Clara Hovey (husband Jere), and Mary Ann Presutti (husband Archilles. He also leaves his eight grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was also predeceased by his sister Margret Cline, his brother John and his daughter-in-law Virginia (wife of Raymond).
He will be missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday February 2nd. at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Burial will follow with military honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visitation will be Saturday February 2nd. from 9:00 to 9:45 A.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
