Ipswich – Robert J. “Meme” Lavoie, 85, husband of the late Sandra A. (Nadeau) Lavoie, died Saturday May 4, 2019 in the Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield after a brief illness. Born in Ipswich on December 31, 1933 he was the son of the late Samuel and Mary Elvine (Gallant) Lavoie.
Mr. Lavoie attended Ipswich schools. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the Army as a paratrooper. After his honorable discharge he would be employed by several area construction companies for many years. He was an active member of the V.F. W. Post# 1093 in Ipswich. He truly enjoyed spending time on his house boat, the “Our Captain” .
In addition to being predeceased by his wife Sandra, Mr. Lavoie was also predeceased by his son David Lavoie.
Mr. Lavoie is survived by his son Lance Lavoie, his wife Nicole and their daughter Quinn Lavoie, his son David’s long time companion Theresa Gentleman, and his sister Anne Salter. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mona Elliott and her son Eric Elliott, his brother-in-law Stanley Nadeau, his wife Tina and their daughter Samantha Dermody. Also, his very close sister-in-law Kathy Lavoie and by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Lavoie was also predeceased by his 9 brothers and sisters: Loucile Lavoie, Hilda Ormond, Elaine Gauthier, Jean Dattilo, Norman, Richard, Arthur, Gilbert and Roland Lavoie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday May 11th. at 9:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Burial will follow with military honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours to be held Friday May 10th. from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich, relatives and friends are respectfully invited. An evening military service will be conducted in the funeral home at 6:00 P.M.. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Mr. Lavoie’s name to: V.N.A.
