Ipswich – Allan F. Rice, 85, died peacefully on Thursday May 19, 2022. Allan was born in Salem on September 4, 1936, and is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Margaret (MacDonald) Rice, and his sister Dorothy.
Allan was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Lynn, he attended Lowell Tech, and the GE apprentice course, and worked as a machinist. He later obtained fireman and engineer licenses, worked as a plant manager, and retired as the head of engineering and maintenance at Addison-Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester. After growing up in Salem, Allan built a home in Ipswich, was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope parish, and remained in Ipswich for the rest of his life. Allan had a brilliant mechanical mind and spent time building, fixing, and inventing. He loved the outdoors and was an avid sailor who served as a crew member on racing sailboats and motor yachts, and enjoyed skiing. Allan loved to travel and share good times with his family and friends, who all miss him very much.
Allan leaves behind his loving wife Alicia, with whom he shared nearly 40 years of marriage, and who was beside him at his death. He is survived by his three sons and their wives : Scott and Heather of Northampton, Keith and Lauren, and Jonathan and Chantina, all of Topsfield. He is also survived by his siblings : Clarence ‘Buddy’ Rice and his wife Judy of Eddington, Maine, Ann Gough of Ocean City, Maryland, and Marjorie Giroux of Salem. He is survived by Alicia’s children : Andrea, and her husband Donald Della Valle, Jeremiah Lewis and his wife Christine, all of Ipswich, along with 10 grandchilden and his ex-wife Patricia Rice. He was also predeceased by Alicia’s son Micah.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celecrated Friday May 27th, at 10 :00 A.M. at Our Lady of Hope Church 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich, relatives and friends are respectfully invited. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Allan’s name to : The Open Door food pantry of Ipswich 1 Agawam Village Ipswich, MA 01938.
