Acclaimed New England landscape photographer, Andrew Louis Borsari, 79 of Ipswich, Massachusetts passed peacefully in his home on February 3rd., 2020 with his loving wife, Elvira, his brother-in-law, Albert, and his furry companion, Cooper by his side after a brief illness. Andy was an avid sailor, introspective photographer, with an infectious smile, uncanny wit, and deeply touched every person he met.
Born February 16th. 1940 in West Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Andrew L. Borsari, Sr., and Ernestine Booth. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elvira, his son, Andrew William, and his brother Robert. He is predeceased by daughter, Andrea.
While at West Side High he discovered his love for football and became the team captain. Andy also recognized and developed his passion for photography, to which he ultimately devoted more than 50 years. After high school he enlisted in the Marines and was assigned to a photo recon unit. In 1962 he deployed to Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon leaving the Marines, he pursued freelance photography focusing on fine art landscape and taught “the process camera” at Springfield Technical Community College.
In 1982 he and Elvira moved to Ipswich on Great Neck. The sweeping views and Ipswich Bay were an inspiration for Andy’s work. He opened a gallery on Tuna Wharf in Rockport, MA in 1986 and produced award winning images. He had a one man show at the National Wildlife Federation of Art in Alexandria, Virginia and one of his images was chosen by Unicef International to be used for one of their cards. He published 5 books highlighting the area. When not with his camera, Andy could always be found sailing on one of his many boats at the Ipswich Bay Yacht Club.
A memorial service will be held Saturday Feburary 8th. at 10:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church Ipswich, 179 County Road. A reception will immediately follow the memorial service in the church hall, relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Friday February 7th. from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich.
