Arthur J. Doucette, 83, husband to Susan M. (Carpenter) Doucette, died Wednesday night, October 29, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after a long illness with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born in Gloucester, Ma, on October 13, 1936 he was the son of the late Arthur G. and Ethel (Jackson) Doucette.Raised in Beverly, Arthur, better known to his friends as Artie, served in the United States Army from 1961 – 1965. After receiving an honorable discharge, Artie spent 29 years at Tufts University as a Maintenance Supervisor.
In his retirement, Artie and his wife enjoyed traveling to include visiting exotic destinations. He was a lifetime member of the Herman A. Spear Post 331 American Legion in Beverly. As a member he enjoyed organizing the kids’ Christmas party and numerous events for members and their families. Artie served as the Junior Vice President for a time. He enjoyed the social life of the Spear Post where you could always count on him being at the raffles and other various social events.
Artie married his wife Susan October 30, 1994 when he embraced her three children as his own: Justin Daly of Ipswich, Katie (Daly) Rooney of Amesbury and Courtney Savage and her husband Robert Lima of Peabody. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, who all enjoyed sitting on Papa’s lap and sharing his ice cream: Corey, Janell (predeceased) and Kyle Rooney, Kelsey and Riley Daly, Lilly and Jax Parker and Zoey Lima. Artie was also predeceased by his 4 brothers: James, Harry, Charles and Robert and by his sister Suzanne Seale. Family and friends are invited to a brief service with military honors to be held Wednesday November 6th. at the North Beverly Cemetery 685 Cabot Street Beverly, Ma at 11:00 A.M..
