Bruce Walter Laing, age 72, passed away December 21st, 2020 at home after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Hingham, Massachusetts. He attended Northeastern University, receiving a graduate degree in Psychology and spent much of his adult life successfully operating his own management consulting firm.
Bruce lived a full life. He was a world traveler, prolific writer, and talented photographer. He was an amazing cook as evidenced by his extensive collection of cookbooks and Gourmet magazines. He spent his free time researching for the Ipswich Historical Society and later in life his familial genealogy. He enjoyed a good Manhattan, enthusiastic dancing, and delighted in creating themed parties for family and friends. His sense of humor will be remembered by all participants in the Last Gasp Golf Tournament and he was unrivaled in planning the kids birthday parties.
Bruce was an accomplished tennis player, enjoyed playing in the Ipswich Doubles league and assistant coaching the Ipswich girls tennis team for many years. Even after his diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease he continued to make quite a name for himself in local Pickleball leagues. He loved music and was a skilled guitarist with a passable singing voice. He enjoyed performing impromptu concerts whether nightly to his children or at gatherings of family and friends where he channeled his love for Bob Dylan.
His greatest joy was his children. He leaves behind a family that he was very proud of. He will be sorely missed and survived by Sheila Laing, his children Ian (Emily) Laing and Emma Laing, his sisters Nancy Elmore and Robin Chamberlain, his brother Brian (Amy) Laing, his devoted friend Linda Coan, and many nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Aura Emery, father, Carlton Laing, and brother, Douglas Laing.
Due to Covid-19 a private graveside service will be held at a later date with a celebration of life to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please make a tribute gift to Parkinson’s Foundation in his name.
