Carol Bratt Obituary

– Carol L. Bratt (Johnson) aged 82, died on  March 26, 2020  peacefully at home in Ipswich, after an extended illness.

     Carol Lee was born  March 28, 1937  in Sioux City, Iowa.  Along with her sister Miriam, she was placed in foster care and adopted by Reverend and Mrs. Gustav Arndt Johnson.  After leaving Iowa, and Corning, NY, they moved to Norway, Michigan where Carol Lee at age 13 won a singing competition for the state of Michigan.  She also studied the violin and flute and was sent to Interlochen Music Camp on a scholarship granted by the town of Norway.

     Moving to Lynn, Massachusetts and graduating from Lynn Classical High School, she discovered the world of art and graduated with a B.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art.

     In June 1959, she married Robert A. Bratt of Lynn, and they shared over 50 years of marriage, music and art together.  They moved to Beverly where they raised their two daughters.

     Carol Lee taught art for many years in the public schools in Salem, Massachusetts and was the Director of Art for a number of years.  She also taught art for Salem State University.

      After her retirement, she and her husband moved to NH where she painted and sold her art work in over thirty shops and galleries all over the New England states.  Finally moving to Ipswich in 2002, she continued to paint, including local light houses, and enjoyed spending much time and laughter with her family including her two beloved granddaughters.

     Mrs. Bratt is survived by two daughters, Heidi Bratt and Lori Lynn, and a son-in-law David Lynn, all of Ipswich, and two granddaughters, Victoria Lynn of Quincy and Meredith Lynn of Ipswich.  She is further survived by her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.  She was predeceased in death by her husband Robert A. Bratt of Ipswich and sister Miriam Hodecker of Pittsfield.

     Her memorial service will be held at First Church in Ipswich at a later date to be announced.  Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to care Dimensions Hospice  75 Sylvan Street  Danvers, MA  01923.  Assisting the family is the Morris Funeral Home of Ipswich.  To send a condolence please go to :  MorrisFH.com .
