Cecilia Furlotte Obituary

Cecilia M. Furlotte (“Sparky”), died peacefully in her sleep at home of natural causes on Sunday, March 21st., 2021.   She was 98.

She was under the loving care of Mary McAvoy, Sonja Pryor and Care Dimensions.  She had a beautiful mind and generous heart-- a woman of faith and outstanding integrity.

Born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada in her grandparents house, she later moved to Montreal where she grew up with five siblings.

Cecilia was a life-long learner and scholar.  Throughout the first twelve years of her education she was taught all grades and subjects by only three teachers.  This instilled her high self-motivation for reading and learning.

She moved to Allston, Massachusetts to live with family and worked as a comptometer operator for the Ryerson Company.

In 1960 she became a naturalized U.S. citizen so that she could vote for John F. Kennedy.  A devout Catholic, she studied Theology all her life.

When Cecilia was forty years old she went to Boston University for her Bachelors and Masters degrees.  Predictably, she was on the Dean’s list every semester and graduated with High Honors Phi Beta Kappa.

Her Masters Degree led her to a position at Northern Essex Community College where, after a time, became Director of Admissions and Director of Counselling.

Vacations took her all over the world and she often returned to a country for extended stays.

Following her retirement Cecilia did extensive volunteer work in Ipswich and beyond including efforts for World Peace and Human Rights.

Cecilia was a patron of the Arts, particularly of Music, Theater and Painting.  She was also a sports fan and participated in Tennis, Golf and Bowling.  She ran in many races and, when she was older, could be seen walking on the Neck or the beach.

She is survived by Sonja L. Pryor (life-long companion), Mary McAvoy (dear friend), Matthew LaFargue and Nigel Emmet, Damian LaFargue (nephews), Sandra Friesen and family (niece) numerous great nieces and nephews throughout the U.S. and Canada.

We love her and will miss her.
