IOWA CITY, IOWA – Daniel M. Sullivan, a retired Assistant Professor at Iowa State University, died on Friday August 15, 2025, after a short illness. Born in Ipswich, Mass. on October 28,1945 to Bernard M. Sullivan and Olive (Wells) Sullivan, Danny was an only child. He graduated from Ipswich High School Class of 1963 and went on to Suffolk University Sawyer Business School where he majored in Marketing. Subsequently, he attended the University of Northern Iowa where he obtained his Masters’s Degree in English and English Literature with an emphasis on contemporary American writing. He later obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa in photography. Thereafter, he taught all levels of photography in the College of Design including at the graduate level at UNI where he was also a member of various departmental committees. He also minored in drawing. Danny participated in faculty art exhibitions and was a lecturer at the university as well as a guest lecturer at various colleges and universities throughout the U.S.
Danny retired from active teaching in June of 2000.
He remained in Iowa City where he continued to focus on his art and photography.
He will be missed by many friends and relatives in both Ipswich and Iowa.
A graveside service will be held Saturday August 23th. at 10:00 A.M. at the family lot in the New Highland Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
