“Doug”, Douglas Martin Manning passed away surrounded by those he loved on February 15, 2026. He was the son of “Bill” William James Manning and “Pat” Marion Patricia Martin Manning. Doug was born on April 25, 1957 in Cable Memorial Hospital in Ipswich, MA. He was a life-long Ipswich resident – with a short stint in Epping, NH.
As a youth, Doug was active in the Boy Scouts and saved the money he earned as a paper boy to purchase his first boat which he used during high school to earn income as a “clammer”. In 1975, he graduated from Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School where he studied to become an electrician. After his trade certification he served as an electrician in a variety of jobs for many years.
Doug shared his love of the outdoors and the ocean with his three sons Jimmy, Andy and Alex. They spent many enjoyable summers camping together. When not spending time with his sons or his family, he thoroughly enjoyed walking in the local area’s parks; babysitting various family pets – he loved dogs; presiding over the grill at family events; spending time with friends at the local 498 Carlton Club; viewing Plum Island and the ever changing ocean tides from the Pavilion Beach, in Ipswich; and, he was an avid follower and fan of the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots.
Doug is pre-deceased by his parents Pat and Bill Manning; his brothers Michael, John and Joseph Manning; and his nephew Mark Manning (John’s son).
He is survived by his sons Jimmy, Andy and Alex Manning; and his sisters Mary Manning Mallen Badowski of Round Hill, VA; Catherine Manning of San Luis Obispo, CA; and Anne Manning Josephson of Ipswich, MA. He is also survived by nieces and nephews he very much enjoyed: Colleen, Sean and Liam Josephson; Katie Mallen Lange and her three children – Doug’s great-niece and grand-nephews - Talia, Johnny and Angelo Lange; and James Manning and Evelyn Rose Manning (brother John’s son and granddaughter).
Doug will be buried with his parents and brothers in the Cowles Memorial Veterans Cemetery, in Ipswich, MA; a private graveside burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in Doug’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. To send a condolence to the family please go to: MorrisFH.com
