Eloise Bebout Obituary

Eloise Ruth Titus Bebout passed away in her sleep on the morning of December 4, 2019, one week prior to her 92nd birthday. Ellie was born on December 11, 1927 in Ayer, Massachusetts. She was the fifth of eight children born to Ernest and Marion Titus.

Ellie met Richard (Dick) Bebout, her husband, in 1946 when they were both telephone operators. She was a local civilian, and he was in the Army stationed at Fort Devens. They often made telephone connections for people and eventually made a connection of their own. They married in 1947 and went on to have eight children.

Ellie is predeceased by her husband, her first-born child, Linda Bebout, her eldest son, Richard (Ricky) Bebout, her grandson, Milo Bebout, and her great grandson, Ryan Dolan. She is survived by her remaining six children, Deborah Hackmeister, her husband Peter of Damariscotta, ME, and her children Sean Dolan, of Raymond, NH, and Michael Dolan, of Kittery, ME, William Bebout and his wife, Clare Vann, of Somerville, MA, Gary Bebout of Hollywood, CA, Mark Bebout of Parrotsville, TN, and his children with Susan Calcote, Lachlan Bebout of Parrotsville, TN, and Oona Bebout of Brooklyn, NY, Brian Bebout, his wife Lisa Trudeau of Amesbury, MA, and their child, Devin Bebout of Brooklyn, NY, Joanne Maino and her husband Mike, and their children, Jack and Max Maino, of Ipswich, MA, and great grandchildren, Drea Dolan, Nevaeh Dolan, and Julian Dolan. She is also survived by a sister and brother, Alice Millson and Clarence Titus, both of Ayer, MA.

Ellie devoted much of her life to raising her children and keeping a home. Her marriage to Dick lasted 49 years. Sadly, he died after a car accident, which she survived. The years after this event were filled with family, and she was able to take several trips to Europe, something she thought she would never experience. In her later years, when it was no longer possible to live alone, she became a resident of Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing in Beverly, MA.  During her many years at Ledgewood, she became a well-known and beloved resident, often functioning as a greeter to the facility and an advocate and friend for new residents. Ellie had a silly sense of humor, which was appreciated by many. In her later years she had both legs amputated, and after this, she surprised her family with her positive outlook. After her surgery and recovery, she took to wearing colorful, seasonally themed hats. She liked to say, with a smile, “Do you know why I’m wearing this hat? So you won’t notice I don’t have any legs;” a perfect example of Ellie’s positive sensibilities.

Funeral services will be held on December 20, 2019 at 1:00p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Ayer, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Resident Services, 87 Herrick St., Beverly, MA  01915.
