Etta Sotis Obituary

Ipswich – Etta (Markos) Sotis, 88, wife of the late Arthur N. Sotis, died peacefully surrounded by her family in her home Friday morning  April 6, 2018.  Born in Ipswich on  September 25, 1929 she was the daughter of the late John and Anastasia (Sarantakis) Markos.

          Mrs. Sotis was a co-owner of the Salad Bowl in Ipswich.  She was a life long and active member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Ipswich.  She served as a Jr. G.O.Y.A. advisor for many years and was a member of the Logganiko Society.  Mrs. Sotis was a talented and accomplished knitter making numerous: sweaters, hats and blankets for all of her family.  She finished her last hat a week ago, the day before she got ill.  Some of her favorite activities included:  traveling with Dad, playing beano, watching the Red Sox and Patriots and taking periodic trips to Foxwoods.  She and her husband shared over 63 years of marriage.  Etta was predeceased by her husband Arthur on  March 29, 2013.

          Mrs. Sotis is survived by her 3 sons and spouses:  Arthur and Antonia, John and Elizabeth, James and Diana.  She is also survived by her grandchildren:  Nicole and Eric Levesque, Alexa, Nathan, Stephanie, James, Evelyn and Christina Sotis and by her great-grandchildren:  Ava, Zoe and Liam Levesque.  Mrs. Sotis is also survived by her brother:  Evangelos “Sharkey” Markos and her sisters-in-law:  Stella Markos, Constance Markos and Constance Nicholson, as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister  Helen Markos and her brothers:  Peter, James and Euripedes Markos.  The family would like to give a special thanks to Helen Thistlewood for her undivided care and friendship to both Mom and Dad.

          A funeral service will be held Wednesday  April 11th.  at  10:00 A.M.  at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church   8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.  Burial will follow the service in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery  29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich.  There will be no visiting hours.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Mrs. Sotis’ name to:  the Greek Orthodox Church of Ipswich  P.O.
