Salisbury - Helen G. Henwood, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by her three children and former husband, Frank McManmon, on Friday, January 26, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who knew her.
Born on January 29, 1946, in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late David and Elizabeth (Hannan) Henwood of Marblehead. After graduating from Bishop Fenwick High School in 1964 and Salem State University in 1968, Helen embarked on a long teaching career that included teaching both elementary and middle school at the Campbell School in Dracut, St. Michael’s School in Lowell, and the Hunking Middle School in Haverhill.
Helen was known for the love of her family and her two dogs, Snuggles and Dixie, who were her loyal companions. She loved a good game of Scrabble, cooking, reading and time by the ocean. Politics held a special place in Helen's heart and she was known for staying informed and engaged in current affairs.
One of her greatest joys was attending her grandchildren's sporting events, where she cheered them on with genuine enthusiasm. Birthdays and holidays were marked by Helen's presence, as she relished in the laughter and shared moments with her family. The 4th of July held a special significance, and the festivities in Marblehead were an annual tradition she looked forward to with great anticipation.
Helen was predeceased by her mother and father, brother, David Henwood, and sisters, Louise Sullivan and Catherine Callahan. She is survived by her sister Anne McGrath, her children, Mark (Noreen) McManmon, Catherine (John) Turcins, and Maura (Eric) Horndahl, and her eight grandchildren: Andrew, Nathan, and Abigail McManmon, Brooklyn, Lilah, and Audrey Horndahl, Lydia and Vivian Turcins, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visitation hours on Wednesday, January 31, from 4 PM - 7 PM at Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich, MA.
