Irving E. Andrews, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday May 29, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Marion J. (Godley) Andrews. He was born in Ipswich on April 3, 1935 to Irving E. Andrews and Eliza Mary (Andreozzi) Andrews. He was raised in Ipswich with short stints in Revere and Lynn. Irving was a life long communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church – now Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Ipswich.
Irving graduated from Ipswich High School in 1954 where he received the Honorary Science Bach and Lomb Award. He graduated from Northeastern University where he was commissioned a US Army Finance Officer. He also attended Rutgers University. After the Army, Irving worked for several insurance companies including Holyoke Mutual in Salem where he advanced to become an officer. In 1966 Irving received a professional designation as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter. He was an instructor of insurance at Northeastern University. He was elected to President of New England Mutual Underwriting Association. Irving was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus of Ipswich and of the Board of Directors of the Carrolton Club of Ipswich.
Irving was a bicyclist and a runner through the streets and trails of Ipswich and Topsfield where he won several events. His other activities were reading, fishing, touring, skiing and working his large vegetable garden.
In his retirement, he looked forward and enjoyed being home spending time with his wife baby sitting their grandchildren and in the winter months bicycling around Clearwater, Florida.
Irving was predeceased by his wife Marion on April 22, 2018.
Irving is survived by his 2 daughters and their spouses: Lisa M. Teed and her husband Michael of Endwell, NY, Janis E. Goguen and her husband Jim of Ipswich, He leaves behind five grandchildren: Jocelyn A. Rennick and her husband Robert of Salisbury, Michael I. Andrews, Justin P. Goguen, Nicole C. and Dominick Dirardo and great-grandchildren: Sam R., Ben M., and Maggie M. Rennick and many nieces and nephews as well as his sister Donna Hopping now living in Agawam, MA. Irving was also predeceased by his son Michael J. Andrews, his step-father Paul Poussard and two sisters: Jean C. Lynch and Elizabeth Mary Rathe of Ipswich. Irving is also survived by his son Michael’s wife Maureen Andrews and her partner Jim Richards of Salisbury.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday June 8th. at 10:00 A.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Burial with military honors will follow in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Tuesday June 7th. from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home, relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
