Joseph P. Sweeney, father of Christine (Sweeney) King and Kathryn (Sweeney) Gilman, of Arizona, unexpectedly passed away in his sleep on the afternoon of  April 10, 2020  at Maplewood Care facility in Amesbury where he resided for the last year.

He is survived by his two daughters, Christine and Kathryn, his son-in-law Curt Gilman, two grandchildren  Chase and Courtney King, brother Billy Sweeney (Maine), sister Carol Longver (New Hampshire), aunts, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his longtime girlfriend of 30 years Barbara Pearson, who has three children of her own, Sean and Shannon Pearson and Chad Coffman.

Joe was educated in Newburyport and then lived in Byfield for most of his life.

There will be a burial service, for family only, on  April 18, 2020.  He will be laid to rest with his parents in Cowles Memorial Cemetery in Ipswich.  Assisting the family is the Morris Funeral Home of Ipswich.  To send a condolence to the Sweeney family please go to: MorrisFH.com .
