Katherine G. O'Donnell

Katherine G. O’Donnell, 75, of Wenham, MA, passed away on January 24, 2021, at Kaplan Family Hospice with her children by her side.

Born in the Bronx, NY. She was the daughter of the late William and Kathryn Gatter.

Katherine grew up in Merrick, NY. She graduated from Harcum College in Brynmawr, PA, and went on to work at Y&R advertising in New York City. She married Robert Vogel in 1966 and together they moved to Ipswich,MA and had two children, Brigid and Matthew. Katherine worked in sales and the hospitality industry at Le Meridien and the Colonial Hilton hotels. She married Brian O’Donnell in 1981 and together they had a son, Ryan.

The job that Kathy loved the most was facilities manager and event planner at the Mansion at Turner Hill in Ipswich, MA. She cherished the opportunity to work with people in planning their special life events and remembered every newlywed couple she had the pleasure of working with.

Katherine’s greatest pride and source of joy were her children and grandchildren. Her heart would burst with love and gratitude as she spoke of them to anyone who would listen. She adored being a caregiver and raised her children with a nurturing spirit and steady patience. She is remembered by all for her gregariousness and easy sense of humor, as well as a singular reputation for giving other-worldly hugs. She leaves a legacy of elegance in her personal style, perseverance in the face of adversity, and tremendous compassion for all.

Katherine is survived by her daughter, Brigid O’Donnell of Wenham, MA; son Matthew Fernandes-Vogel and his wife Karla of New York, NY; son Ryan O’Donnell of Ipswich, MA; grandsons Luke O'Donnell, and Francisco and Vincent Fernandes -Vogel. Katherine is also survived by her sister, Carol Curry and her husband Robert Curry of Hamilton, MA, and her nieces and nephew. She is preceded in death by her brother Edward Kerwin.
