A gentle giant who was larger than life passed away on Monday night February 12, 2024. Luis was a loving father, brother who enjoyed the simplicity of watching the sunrise at Crane’s Beach while scratching his tickets.
He loved taking photos of nature and his family. Luis sat in his chair reading Louis Lamour, listening to classic music or watching movies. Luis was a great football player for Ipswich High School transferring to Thompson Academy in Boston where he excelled as both an offensive and defensive tackle. He joined the Army which brought him to the Vietnam War. Luis and his brothers were highly known in Ipswich for all their athleticism. He was a bartender at the Amvets in Ipswich for many years and enjoyed being Santa when he was young for the children.
Luis leaves behind his two adult children: Amanda and Marc Merry, his brothers: Howard “Bucky” Merry and his wife Ellen, William Merry and his wife Linda, George Merry and his wife Kim. He is predeceased by his parents Blanca and Howard Merry, and his two brothers Russell Merry and Richard “Dick” Merry. He was surrounded by numerous nephews and nieces and their children along with his faithful dog “Oldman Dozer”.
His service will be held Saturday February 17, 2024 at ll:00 A.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich with visitation following the service, relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
