Marie Juliette Gertrude (Pelletier) Provost, 94, wife of the late Louis Provost, passed away peacefully Monday, June 30, 2025, surrounded by her family at The Residence At Salem Woods, Salem, NH. She was born Nov 4, 1930, in Salem, MA.
Gertrude graduated from Salem Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and did maternity and private duty nursing. Gertrude drew strength and comfort from her deep Catholic faith throughout her entire long life. She devoted many years to raising their 13 children, and when those children were grown, she enjoyed spending the next 20 years traveling the country with Louis in their camper. Her final years were spent enjoying family visits, activities with friends, watching the daily mass, and doing the rosary.
Gertrude is survived by: David & Linda Provost of Sudbury, MA, her daughter-in-law Gail (Peter) Provost of Gilbert, SC, Susan & Paul Dionne of Derry, NH, Daniel & Bonnie Provost of South Hampton, NH, John & Laura Provost of Pembroke, NH, Judy & Michael Ashley of Ipswich, MA, Paul & Kim Provost of Danvers, MA, Jane & Darren Medeiros of Pleasanton, CA, Leo Provost of Essex, MA, Louise & Peter Conlon of Lanesboro & Framingham, MA, AnneMarie Merrill (Fred, deceased) of Derry, NH, Phyllis & Doug Musco of Gloucester, MA, and Scott & Sydney Provost of Vashon, WA, as well as 31 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Edgar (Chuck) of Charles Town, WV. She was predeceased by her son Peter Provost of Gilbert, SC, and grandson Joshua Provost, as well as siblings Reginald Pelletier, Jeannette Mercier, and Pauline Lamarre.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11am at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, 52 Main St, Essex, MA. A reception will follow the mass in the church hall, and relatives and friends are invited. Burial in the Wenham Cemetery will be private. There will be no visiting hours.
