Mary Joanna Schuman Blaquiere, wife of Melvin Robert Blaquiere of Colonial Drive in Ipswich, MA, died Wednesday March 5, 2025 at Beverly Hospital following an illness.
Born in Ossining, NY, she was the daughter of Charles Donald Schuman and Jeannette Schuman, and was raised in Briarcliff Manor, NY.
Mary is survived by her brother Karl Schuman of New York, NY, her son Ian Schuman Blaquiere and wife Elizabeth Anne Blaquiere of Merrimac, MA, her granddaughter Clara Jeannette Blaquiere and her grandson Oscar Nelson Blaquiere, as well as her many step children and step grandchildren.
Mary moved to Massachusetts to pursue physical education, gaining her bachelors degree at Gordon College in Wenham, MA and her Masters at Salem State University in Salem, MA . She went on to become a beloved physical education teacher at Doyon School in Ipswich, MA for 40 years.
Mary had a strong passion for nature, outdoor activities and physical health. She loved to jog, walk, cross country ski and kayak. She loved to work out at the YMCA in Ipswich, MA and was always an active and healthy person. She loved going on vacations with her family and friends in Rangeley, ME, kayaking the beautiful lakes and ponds in the area.
Mary had a strong dedication to her church family at Immanuel Baptist Church in Ipswich, MA. She loved spending time with her close church community and lasting friendships in town.
Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren most of all, helping to raise, nurture and teach them.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, with a brief service from 10:30 - 11:00am, with a reception to follow, 11:00 - 12:30pm at the:
