Mary Irvine Obituary

Mary Ann (Husson) Irvine, devoted mother of Robert B. Irvine, David G. Irvine and Marcelle E. Irvine, and widow to Robert Lloyd Irvine, passed away surrounded by her children at home in Haverhill, MA on Thursday February 15, 2024 after a long and hard-fought battle with liposarcoma of the abdomen.

Mary Ann was born in Beverly Massachusetts on June 29th, 1947. She was the 4th of 5 children born to Mary Josephine (Ring) Husson and John Leroy Husson. Her siblings are Roy Husson, Donald Husson (deceased), Robert Husson, and Sharon (Husson) Pelletier. Mary Ann graduated from Beverly High School in 1965 before becoming a secretary for several years.  She married Robert L. Irvine, who affectionately referred to her as “Mev,” at St. Joseph’s Church on February 14th, 1970 in Ipswich, Massachusetts. The couple then remained in Ipswich where they raised their three children. Mary Ann devoted her life to her husband and her children as a stay at home mother and wife. Mary Ann lived her life for her family as a very involved mother and an extremely supportive wife to her husband, who was an Ipswich firefighter.

In addition to her children, her 3 surviving siblings and their families, Mary Ann is also survived by her 2 brilliant grandsons, Kyle and Braeden Irvine of Groveland Massachusetts. Mary Ann was very proud of her grandsons and their accomplishments as well as her three children and their successes. Her three children learned love, devotion, and patience from Mary Ann and used those qualities in their careers. Her eldest son, Robert, has been serving on the Haverhill Fire Department for many years, recently becoming the Lieutenant of Fire Inspections. Her son,
David G. Irvine, is the Chief of Emergency Communications with the Ipswich Police and Fire Departments.  Her daughter, Marcelle E. Irvine, is the Assistant Director of Special Education for
Cherry Creek Public Schools in Colorado. Her children were all there to support and care for her during her hard-fought battle with cancer.

Mary Ann had the biggest heart and was full of compassion for all people. Although living a more private and introverted life, she cared deeply for people and loved to crack jokes and bring laughter to every situation. She was cracking jokes even from her hospital bed, making her family, her nurses, and all of her loving visitors laugh until the very end. Everyone who met Mary Ann loved her. Her sweet, gentle, yet funny and witty personality shined through even her sickness. She was a very humble and modest person, who always put everyone else first, andthrived off of seeing her loved ones happy.
