Maureen E. (Sullivan) Smolla, 91, was born in Ipswich, MA on June 3, 1933. The daughter of the late Raymond M. Sullivan and Pauline R. (Kelley) Sullivan, Maureen passed peacefully on Sunday August 25, 2024.
Maureen was a graduate of Ipswich High School, Class of 1951. She also attended Boston University. Maureen worked for the Massachusetts Court System for many years at the Third District Court in Ipswich in the Clerk of Courts office as well as being a Bail Commissioner.
Maureen was an organist and choir member at the former St. Joseph Church (Our Lady of Hope) for thirty plus years. She was an active artist and craftsperson and longtime member of the Ould Newbury Golf Club.
Maureen was predeceased by her son Keith Smolla and her sisters Patricia Whalen and Sheila Como.
Maureen is survived by: her daughter Kelley and her husband James Burnham, her son Christopher and his wife Ann, her son Kevin and his partner Elaine Collins, her son Casey and his partner Marie Donaldson, and daughter-in-law Maggie (Ting Feng) Smolla. Maureen is also survived by her grandchildren: Jamie Burnham and his wife Kim, Travis Burnham, Jakob Smolla, Zachary Smolla, Lauren Smolla, Brandon Smolla, Isabella Smolla and her great-grandchildren: Nathan Burnham and Georgia Burnham and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday August 30th. at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Hope Church 52 Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Friends and family are respectfully invited. Burial will be at the Old South Cemetery 75 County Road, Ipswich. There will be no public visiting hours. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Maureen’s name to: the American Cancer Society of MA 30 Speen Street Framingham, MA 01701.
