Paul Anthony Grenier, 82, husband of Ellen Dodge (Surpitski) Grenier, died Monday February 7, 2022 . Born on July 21, 1939 at Cable Memorial Hospital in Ipswich he was the son of the late Alberic and Antoinette (Gallant) Grenier.
With the exception of a 6 year stint in the United States Air Force that took him to many new places in the world, Paul spent his life in the community he dearly loved – Ipswich. When invited to go adventuring and travel later in life, he would often say, “Why on earth would I want to go to (insert name of place)? I already live in the best place in the world, Ipswich.” Paul loved people. He spent his life making connections – professionally in advertising and promotional sales, and then later in life, in his retirement years, at the Ipswich Country Club as a greeter. Paul loved to go out to eat. If you were fortunate enough to be his server, he would ask to know your “story” – where you were from, what you studied in school and if you were an Ipswich native, the greatest town in the world! A 40+ year friend of Bill W., Paul possessed a generous heart and a deep commitment to helping others forge their path to recovery.
Paul is survived by his devoted wife Ellen with whom he shared 53 years of marriage, his 2 children: son Matthew and his wife Jen (Adamo) Grenier of Rowley and daughter Meredith and her husband Christopher Shaw of Boxford. Paul was the beloved Papa to: Isabelle Grenier, Nathaniel Grenier, Charlotte Shaw and Noah Shaw. He is also survived by his brother Phillip Grenier of Ipswich, Claire and George Mutti of Merrimac and Florida, brother-in-law Charles and his wife Laurie Surpitski of Ipswich and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed by his loyal canine companion Elcee. Paul was also predeceased by his sister Mary and her husband Bill Martin formerly of CT, and Anne and her husband Tony Trimmer formerly of PA.
