Peter Gray Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Peter James Gray who left us on December 13, 2025. He was born on May 7, 1956 to James Gray and Jean (Maguire) Gray of Taunton, MA.

Peter grew up in Taunton and graduated from Taunton High School in 1974. He continued his education at Florida Tech University in Orlando, Florida, where he pledged the Sigma Chi fraternity. Later on, he transferred to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, graduating in 1979 with a degree in Public Health Sciences.

Following graduation, Peter devoted his career to public health, working in Chatham, Massachusetts from 1980 to 1984, Ipswich, Massachusetts from 1984 to 1986, and later in Billerica, Massachusetts. From there he worked in Yarmouth, Massachusetts and Wakefield, Massachusetts. Throughout his professional life, he both worked for and volunteered with the American Lung Association, reflecting his long-standing commitment to improving respiratory health and serving others.

Peter married Elizabeth Curtis on June 25, 2005. Together they made their home in Wakefield, MA and later in Ipswich, MA. They especially cherished spending time together each year vacationing on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina.

Peter was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed attending many concerts over the years, particularly performances by Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago, which brought him great joy.

Peter was loved by everyone around him. His smile lit up every room, and he was known for his quick wit and unforgettable sense of humor, especially his legendary “dad jokes,” which will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Nolan Gray; his sister, Linda Gray; his daughter, Abby Jones, her husband Leonard Jones, and their children Leo, Sydney, and Stella; and his son, Eric Gray. He was predeceased by his father, James Gray; his mother, Jean Gray; and his mother-in-law, Joan Nolan. He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family, including his in-laws and many cherished relatives and friends.
