Raymond McCarthy Obituary

Raymond L. McCarthy, 81, husband of Helga (Hortig) McCarthy, died Monday morning June 28, 2021 in the Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport.  Born in Lynn on March 6, 1940 he was the son of the late Donald F. and Phyllis L. (Raymond) McCarthy.  Ray was raised and educated in Lynn, spending summers in Ipswich.

     Ray was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the Army in the early 1960’s.  He would later work as a machinist at Phillips Norelco until his retirement.  His wife Helga was his best friend whom he loved dearly, they were married for 41 years.  He enjoyed going “up country” with her.  Ray had a great sense of humor which never wavered even during his illness.  He enjoyed a good scotch and great conversation.  Ray loved his family very much and especially enjoyed seeing his nieces, nephews and their children.

     Ray is survived by, in addition to his wife Helga, his step-daughter Kimberly Marie Casey, his two siblings Joyce McCarthy and Dennis McCarthy and his wife Brenda, all of Ipswich and his sister in law Lorraine McCarthy of Austin, TX.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews:  Nancy Zenk, Tim McCarthy, Kathy McCarthy, Sean Cronin, Steven Cronin, Jennifer Alywin, Peter Bartniski, Kelly Maio, Danielle McCarthy, Denise McCarthy and Matthew McCarthy and several great-nieces and great-nephews.  Ray was predeceased by his brother Donald F. McCarthy, Jr. and his sister Lorraine Bartniski, his niece Kristen Bartniski Demetrio and nephew Patrick McCarthy.
