Robert C. Riddle, 91, of Ipswich passed away on July 11, 2024.
He was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania on November 15, 1932 to Lois Jean (Charlton) and Elton Clark. He attended Ipswich High School, where he played football. After highschool, Bob proudly served in the Korean War as Corporal in the Army, parachuting into combat as part of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team.
Bob married Helen L. Campbell in 1955, and they raised five children together in Ipswich, MA. In 1973, he married Joyce “Gertie” Horsman, who had four children, and they blended their families together into one big Brady Bunch.
He worked for most of his life at PJ Markos’ Seafood Company as the manager. He spent his free time playing cribbage at the V.F.W., fishing and clamming off of Ipswich Bay, and Moose hunting in Maine with his longtime friend Gary Zabelski. He was a life-long member of the V.F.W. Post# 1093, and served as both president and quartermaster over the years.
Bob is survived by three of his children: Paula Jeanne and her husband Stanford Viator of Ipswich, Robert Elton Riddle and wife Toni of Ipswich, and Richard Eric Riddle and his wife Karen of McKinney Texas; his four step-children and their spouses: Susan (Barter) McKay of Ipswich, Leslie (Barter) Howard of Big Pine Key, FL, William D. and Eileen Barter of Lady Lake, FL, Margaret H. (Barter) Loftman and her Husband James of Lake Worth, FL. He is additionally survived by his sisters Janet Herrick, and Donna Rumrill.
Grampy Griddle was a lovable curmudgeon to his grandchildren, Garry Hutchings Jr., Amanda Martel, Jessica Viator, Robert Riddle, Jacqueline Viator, Lauren Riddle, Jamie Viator, Paige Riddle, Morgan Riddle, and Michael Riddle, and great grandchildren Zoe, Thomas and Dorothy.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joyce, his daughter Dorothy Riddle, son Danny Riddle, and his sister Elaine Duncan.
A funeral service will be held Thursday July18th. at 11:00 A.M. in the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Burial will follow with military honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. An hour of visitation will be held in the funeral home Thursday July 18th. from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service, relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
