Ipswich – Robert P. “Bob” Scherer, husband of the late Susan C. (Kingman) Scherer, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday September 16, 2025 after a life threatening medical emergency.
Born in Buffalo, New York on July 17, 1952, he was the son of the late Robert G. Scherer and Maryann E. (Wozniak) Scherer.
Bob moved to Ipswich, Massachusetts with his family in 1969 and graduated from Ipswich High School in 1970. He was married to his late wife, Susan in 1973. He proudly worked at General Electric in Lynn, MA as an aircraft engine assembler for 42 years. Bob loved his job and always took pride in his work.
Bob was the oldest of 6 siblings, a brother and 4 sisters, all equally loved and cared for by their older brother. Family was always very important. Bob loved get togethers, cook outs, beach days, lake days, boat rides, birthdays and holidays. He never missed a family celebration if he could help it. He took off a month vacation each July to spend with family.
Bob was a dedicated and compassionate father and grandfather who loved his children and grandchildren whole heartedly.
Bob loved living in Ipswich and was considered a local by many. He was a regular at many local establishments, including the Village Pancake House and Riverview Pizza. Bob never knew a stranger, to know him was to love him.
Bob loved the weather and was the family’s “unofficial weather man”. He always looked forward to a good snow storm and kept careful watch on any concerning weather patterns. He was a true New England Sports fan. His nieces and nephews loved to play lawn games with him, especially Jarts. His favorite car was his yellow and black VW bug. He enjoyed music and loved the 1960’s and 1970’s countdowns. Later on he really enjoyed Christian Worship music and the hymns of old.
Bob was baptized on April 17, 2022 at Great Rock Church in Danvers, MA. He was a devoted member and Christ follower who was known as an “unofficial greeter”. He enjoyed sweet, deep fellowship with everyone he came in contact with. He prayed for everyone and served God with all his heart.
Bob was a loving and devoted son, brother, brother-in-law, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend and neighbor who will be greatly missed and never forgotten. He will remain forever in our hearts until we are reunited with him again in Glory.
He is survived by his children, Kristen (Scherer) Thompson and Bobby Scherer. He is also survived by his grandchildren Olivia Thompson and William Thompson.
Bob was brother to Tom Scherer (his wife Carol Ann), Maryanne (Scherer) Martin, Cindy Scherer, Suzy (Scherer) Dwyer (husband David) and Debi (Scherer) Mitchell (husband Kevin). He was uncle to Melissa, Emily, Glen, Paul, Cam, Jean, Mark, Danny (late), Lauren, Katie, Denis and Marina.
