Robert “Bobby” Wood 64, of Ipswich, passed away February 8, 2021 at Beth Israel Hospital of years of battling several illnesses. Bobby was born in Saugus to Robert L. Wood and Alice (Wood) Ricca and raised in Georgetown.
Bobby’s love and devotion for his family was his primary focus in life. His daughter Rebecca and his grandkids Kaydence and Cameron, whom he lived with, brought him great joy and unconditional love every day. Bobby’s one weakness was ice cream, and would rejoice with laughter how he and his grandkids would sneak out of the house (without their mom knowing) for a late afternoon ice cream cone. Grampa’s laughter was contagious.
A lifelong fan of racing, Bobby spent his free time as a member of Eddie MacDonald’s race car team. He was a skilled and innovative machinist, and the team was blessed to have Bobby in their lives with his passion for racing, his knowledge from years of experience, and his love for the team. Bobby was simply put “a great guy”.
Another passion of Bobby’s was fishing. At a young age, he started tuna fishing with his dad and brothers on his father’s boat, Sandpiper, and landed multiple tuna close to 1,000 lbs. He passed down the love of fishing to his sons and often took them to his local fishing holes. One of his best trips was landing 7 striped bass “keepers” and selling them by boat in Gloucester, as they proudly walked the fish right up through the tables of people eating. Bobby loved the ocean.
Bobby is survived by his mother Alice Ricca and her husband Sam; his son Wayde Harper; his daughter Rebecca Putur-Wood and partner Rob McParland; his stepdaughter Andrea Morris and husband Mike; his stepson Jeffrey Putur and wife Tara; his eight grandkids: Lauren, Nathan, Alexis, Annabel, Jacob, Evan, Kaydence, and Cameron; his brother Stephen Wood and wife Catherine; his sister Donna Sprague and husband David; several nieces and nephews; and his partner for many years Mary Putur; and many more extended family members and friends who loved him dearly and will miss him every day.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Wood, his brother Michael Wood, and most recently by his stepson David C. Putur.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Morris Funeral Home of Ipswich.
