Roberta Maniatis Obituary

Roberta (McCarthy) Maniatis, 90, of Ipswich passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Beverly Hospital.

Roberta was known and loved by many an Bobbie, Mom, Gram, YaYa, Gee, Auntie Bobbie, and Mrs. M.

She was full of sparkle and sass, smarts and quick wit, and those closest to her knew her genuine sweetness and generosity.

She was born in Malden in 1930, the daughter of the late George and Ella (Carnes) McCarthy.  She moved to Ipswich with her family as a young girl and resided as Appleton Farms.  She attended Ipswich High School and worked for years at Quint’s Drug Store.   She was proud to be known as one of the “Quint’s Girls”.

Bobbie  married Richard Maniatis in 1950, and became a member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich.  She was a homemaker, talented cook, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend.

She opened the Mariner Restaurant with her husband in Beverly in 1970, and took pride in running a successful family business for over 30 years.  While it was hard work, she cherished times spent with family and friends at the restaurant.

She was fortunate enough to build her home in Ipswich, travel much, and enjoyed many adventures with her loving family.  Bobbie loved to make others smile by sharing a funny story or a thoughtful, generous gift.  She was a Patriots fan and enjoyed cooking.  Bobbie loved Elvis and had a beautiful singing voice.

Her deepest joy was to be with her family.  She never missed a football game, dance recital, or chance to boast about her grandchildren and being a great-grandmother.  Doing “something special” for those she loved made her happy.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her wonderful laugh and humor, her sense of fun and her good heart.

Bobbie is predeceased by her husband, Richard, and daughter-in-law, Judith, of Hamilton.  She is survived by her daughter, Regina Marsella and husband Paul of Beverly, son Richard Maniatis, Jr. of Hamilton, grandchildren:  Jennifer White and husband Noah of Reading, Christopher Marsella and Paul Cherubino of Beverly, Alex Maniatis and wife Jessica of Los Angeles, Stephanie Maniatis of Grafton, great-granddaughter  Emma White of Reading, and many loving nieces and nephews including the McCarthy family of Ipswich and Cynthia Korbis of Peabody.

A graveside service is planned for immediate family in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery  29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich.  Memorial contributions may be made in Bobbie’s name to:  the Christina Govostes Fund for children’s programs  c/o  the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church.  Payment may be made out to  “the Greek Orthodox Church of Ipswich”,  P.O.
