Rose May Cormier

On Thursday, July 20, 2023, our mother, Rose Cormier (née Després) passed away in her home at the age of eighty surrounded by the love of her family. She had been in hospice care after an extended period of living with dementia. She was born in Cocagne, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of the late Philias and Aurore (née Poirier) Després. Rose immigrated to the United States in 1959. She married John Cormier, of Merrimac, MA, in 1961 and later became a citizen of the United States.

Rose made a wonderful life for herself and her family and is survived by her four children, Catherine Sutherby and husband Edward of Ipswich, John J. Cormier of Woburn, Barbara Thompson and husband John of Haverhill, and Robert Cormier and wife Maureen of Merrimac. She was the proud and loving Mémère of seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley, Stephanie, Joshua, Madison Rose, Jack and Brielle. She was also great-grandmother to Tedy Catherine, Aria, and Ezmae. She is also survived by her sister Aldora Mitton of Moncton, N.B., Canada, and brother Raoul Després of Cocagne, N.B., Canada. She was predeceased by her brothers Aldéo and Bertin.

Her family wants to thank everyone for their love and prayers for this special woman during this difficult time. Mother will be truly missed by all. She will be laid to rest in Cocagne, New Brunswick, Canada. There will be no calling hours.
