Sheila B. (Sullivan) Como, 82, wife of the late Robert E. Como, died Friday evening April 9, 2021 in her home in Ipswich surrounded by her loved ones after a battle with cancer. Born in Ipswich on April 27, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Raymond M. and Pauline R. (Kelley) Sullivan.
Mrs. Como was raised and educated in Ipswich, a graduate of Ipswich High School. Later she was a graduate of Boston College with a bachelor’s degree. She was a teacher in the Ipswich Public School system for several years until she and her husband Bob started their family raising their 6 sons. After her sons were grown Mrs. Como worked for the Ipswich Chronicle and later the Lawrence Eagle Tribune until her retirement. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed having her family over on Sundays for dinner and competitive card games. Mrs. Como was a devout Catholic, she loved gardening and feeding her feathered friends. Her family was most important to her. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Bob, on January 28, 2019.
Mrs. Como is survived by her 6 sons: Stephen and wife Linda, Raymond, Matthew, Paul and wife Valerie, Mark, Jonathan and wife Jackie. She is survived by her 8 grandchildren with a granddaughter expected soon. Mrs. Como also leaves her sister Maureen Bucklin and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her sister Patricia Whalen.
Due to the pandemic a funeral Mass will be celebrated privately at Our Lady of Hope Church of Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the committal service in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich on Thursday April 15., at 11:00 A.M.. Those in attendance in the cemetery must: wear a face covering, practice social distancing and not come into physical contact with the family. Regretfully there will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Mrs. Como’s name to: the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary in Topsfield.
