Vera Bombardiere Obituary

Vera Bombardiere, 100,  passed away peacefully on Thursday February 15, 2024 at her home in Scarborough, Maine.  Born in Ipswich, Massachusetts on April 19, 1923, Vera was the daughter of the late Elias and Irene (Veneri) Arvanites.

 

Vera was a graduate of Ipswich High School, where she met the love of her life, the late Frank A. Bombardiere.  They both pursued careers at Sylvania Corporation, where Vera worked as a bookkeeper.  Given the opportunity of advancement and the love of adventure, they lived in West Virginia, North Carolina, New Hampshire and retired in Maine.

 

Vera was a strong, independent woman with a quick wit, sassy sense of humor and the ability to relate to anyone she met.  She even found time to successfully dabble in the stock market and obtain a real estate license.  Vera's love for her family and friends was undeniable.

 

Vera is survived by nieces and nephews: Antonia Baer of Ipswich, MA, Arthur Baer and wife Irene of Ipswich, MA, Sideris Baer, MD of Ipswich, MA, James Arvanites and wife Annmarie of Cranston, RI, John Arvanites and wife Beth of Ipswich, MA, Nicki McGrath and husband Richard of Danvers, MA and Margherita Arvanites and partner Sheila Hall of Kansas. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Wanda Arvanites of Ipswich, MA and Barbara Arvanites of California.  Vera was predeceased by brothers James, George and Louis Arvanites and sisters Doris Baer and Anna Horseman.

 

She was a lifelong member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich, MA.  Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the church beginning at 11AM.  Burial will be at Cowles Memorial Cemetery  29 Town Farm Road,  Ipswich, MA.  Flowers may be sent to Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich, MA, 01938.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church  P.O.
