Wanda (Surowiec) Carlson, 75, of Port Saint Lucie, FL and Ipswich, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 30, 2021, surrounded by family after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Wanda graduated from Ipswich High School, class of 1964 and continued her education at Katherine Gibbs in Boston and went on to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Essex Agricultural Institute in 1984 and then graduating as a Registered Nurse from Endicott College in 1992. Wanda achieved many certifications including being a certified wound care nurse and wound specialist. In addition to being a nurse she had a successful medical sales career in the wound care field achieving multiple top performer awards. Wanda was a devout Catholic and grounded in her faith and Polish heritage. Many of her passions included spending time with her family and friends, cooking, crocheting, polish dancing and lending a helping hand to whoever needed it. Her heart and compassion was evident to all that she met.
Wanda is survived by her best friend and husband of 52 years C. Richard Carlson, her son Shawn Carlson and his wife Shelley of Birmingham, AL; her daughter Stacey Bennett and her husband Mike of Ipswich; her brothers Stanley and John Surowiec and her sister-in-law Alena. Her cherished grandchildren Morgan, Owen and Frances and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, November 1st from 6-9pm at the St. Lawrence Literary Society 14 Fairview Avenue in Ipswich. A memorial mass will take place at Our Lady of Hope Church 54 Linebrook Road in Ipswich on Tuesday, November 2nd at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wanda’s name to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston MA 02284 or www.jimmyfund.org/gift.
