Weymouth M. Atkinson, Jr., 74, died Tuesday, January 20, 2026 in Nashville, Tennessee, following a brief illness, with his beloved partner, Deborah Campbell, by his side. He is also survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Atkinson) Tanguay and her husband, Dan, of Haverhill; his grandchildren, Isabella and Noah Tanguay; his sister, Hazel McNeil; and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Ipswich on December 21, 1951, he was the son of the late Weymouth M. Atkinson, Sr. and Jacquelyn (Player) Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson was a lifelong resident of Ipswich until relocating to Nashville in 2022. He was a graduate of Ipswich High School, Class of 1970, and was formerly employed as a Public Communications Manager at Verizon.
Public service was central to Mr. Atkinson’s life. He served the Town of Ipswich as a call firefighter for several years, a role he held with pride and deep respect for the responsibility it carried. Mr. Atkinson retired with the rank of Captain, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the fire service training many firefighters to become more proficient and safer firefighters. He also served the community as a selectman, always guided by a strong sense of duty and fairness.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was known for his sense of humor. As a partner, father, and grandfather, he was steady, proud, and deeply committed to his family, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday February 10, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Morris Funeral Home 45 North Main Street, Ipswich, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 pm at Cowles Memorial Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
