William Peter Alexopoulos died peacefully at his home in Ipswich, MA on September 3, 2023, five days short of his 95th birthday.
Bill, as he was known, was born on September 9, 1928.Hewas a lifelong member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich and a graduate of Ipswich High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. After high school Bill served in the U.S. Coast Guard. When he returned home, he served his town and joined the Ipswich Police force. After many years of service, he joined the Ipswich Shellfish Company. It was there he spent most of his professional life. He put his passion for great food together with his fun spirit and quick wit which was the perfect combination for a successful career in sales.
Throughout his life he maintained his fun, youthful spirit. He had a great passion for sports and was an avid tennis player and men’s softball player. He also loved bowling, playing pool and pick-up basketball. He was fiercely competitive and loved a good game.
He is survived by his loving wife Tina Alexopoulos and his eight children, Diane (Larry) DesRoches, Jane (Jim) Burke, David (Ann Marie) Alexopoulos, Christopher (Amy) Alexopoulos, Anthony Alexopoulos, Christine (Brendan) Doyle, Michael (Eileen) Alexopoulos, and Amy (Freddie) Ellis. He is survived by 14 grandchildren, Elyse Alexopoulos, Ashleigh Serafim, Nicholas Alexopoulos, Andrea Alexopoulos, Lauren Burke, Caitlin Doyle, Ava Alexopoulos, Nicholas Doyle, Peter Alexopoulos, Charles Alexopoulos, Willa Ellis, Andrew Alexopoulos, Sofia Alexopoulos and Theodora Ellis; and 3 great grandchildren.
Bill was predeceased by his son William Peter Alexopoulos, Jr., two brothers, George Alexopoulos, formerly of Greece and John Alexopoulos formerly of Brooklyn, NY; and his two sisters, Aphrodite "Florence" (Alexopoulos) Christopher,formerly of Ipswich, and Theodora “Teddy” (Alexopoulos) Colomycki, formerly of Newburyport.
Bill will be remembered for his fun, playful spirit.He leaves behind many family members as well as many cherished friends and colleagues, who he gathered throughout a lifetime of friendship.
