Willis Sears Hough passed away at his home in Dunnellon Florida on January 27, 2020 at the age of 91. Willis is predeceased by his loving wife Sara “Sally” Doane Hough and survived by his children, Mary Mitchell and her husband Brian of Newbury MA; Charles Hough and his wife Marlaina of Scotch Plains NJ; Susan Keady and her husband Tony of Hanover MA, his seven grandchildren, Jake and Dean Mitchell; Sean, Meredith and Griffin Hough; Liam and Colin Keady, and many nieces and nephews.
Born to Garry DeNeuville Hough II and Mary Sears Hough in 1928, Willis grew up in Longmeadow MA with his brother, the late Garry DeN. Hough III, and his sister, the late Charlotte Keenen. He attended Classical High School, Kenyon College and then Babson College before beginning his 39 year career as an Actuarial Analyst at Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company. Having married in 1960, Willis and Sally settled in Wilbraham to raise their family prior to enjoying retirement between their homes on Little Neck - Ipswich, MA and at Spruce Creek Preserve - Dunnellon, FL.
An active and independent man, Willis made wonderful friends wherever he was. He volunteered his time to many organizations including Junior Achievement, Wilbraham United Church,Meals on Wheels and The Masons.He was rarely happier than when he was working in his garden at the cottage or riding his bike around his Florida neighborhood taking time to chat with his neighbors and friends. He would readily share stories of his various travels and experiences telling about his fly-fishing trips, a new recipe he wanted to try or how his latest crop of tomatoes was doing.Willis enjoyed a good game of cribbage or cornhole and was an avid golfer,always looking for new techniques to improve his game. He will be greatly missed by many.
Visitation will be held at Morris Funeral Home in Ipswich on Thursday,February 6th from 5:00 – 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at First Church in Ipswich on Friday, February 7th at 11:00am with burial to follow.
